The Shannon Lectures in History are a series of public lectures presented by Carleton University’s Department of History in collaboration with Library and Archives Canada. The series brings researchers, practitioners and the public together to explore new perspectives, approaches and methods in historical research.
Gossip practice in the archives
A good gossip session usually happens on the apartment stoop or in the bar, but gossiping in the archive can similarly help us get under and through the “official” record, when too often the record means gaps, silences, and erasures.
So, what does it mean to take gossip seriously as an information practice in archival work? In this talk, Emily Guerrero will be using the archives of artist-run centres as a case study, considering them as a site that is in-between an institutional and community archive.
This is a hybrid event. Simultaneous interpretation in French will be available both in person and online.

Parking
Paid parking spaces are available at 395 Wellington Street, on the west side of the building. Parking meters and public parking lots can also be found on the surrounding streets.
Bike racks are also available in front of the building.
Several OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais bus routes serve stops located near 395 Wellington Street
