The Shannon Lectures in History are a series of public lectures presented by Carleton University’s Department of History in collaboration with Library and Archives Canada. The series brings researchers, practitioners and the public together to explore new perspectives, approaches and methods in historical research.
Reporting from the Men’s World Cup while fighting football’s fraternity
Award-winning journalist and sports activist Shireen Ahmed draws on her experience attending five World Cups to explore representation in sports media and the continued underrepresentation of women in press corps and media centres.
How does this shape the stories that are told—or overlooked? Ahmed will discuss the challenges of covering the beautiful game and consider what journalists, Canadians and soccer fans can do to help create a more equitable space for engaging with the sport.
This is a hybrid event. Simultaneous interpretation in French will be available both in person and online.

Paid parking spaces are available at 395 Wellington Street, on the west side of the building. Parking meters and public parking lots can also be found on the surrounding streets.
Bike racks are also available in front of the building.
Several OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais bus routes serve stops located near 395 Wellington Street.
