The Shannon Lectures in History are a series of public lectures presented by Carleton University’s Department of History in collaboration with Library and Archives Canada. The series brings researchers, practitioners and the public together to explore new perspectives, approaches and methods in historical research.
“Not worth mentioning”: Preserving Unremarkable Videogames
SSHRC and FRQSC-funded PhD candidate in game studies, Dany Guay-Bélanger, presents a novel approach to researching and preserving the history of videogames that puts players first by taking their memories and contributions to the field seriously.
Classic videogames are in peril. The frequent removal of games from online stores, their closure, and recent announcements that physical game production will be discontinued only serve to reinforce this call to action. Fortunately, the fields of video game preservation and history are quite healthy and Bélanger will discuss current efforts to preserve video games and the importance of focusing on unremarkable videogames.
This is a hybrid event. Simultaneous interpretation in French will be available both in person and online.

Paid parking spaces are available at 395 Wellington Street, on the west side of the building. Parking meters and public parking lots can also be found on the surrounding streets.
Bike racks are also available in front of the building.
Several OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais bus routes serve stops located near 395 Wellington Street.
