Art from the Archives: Notebook Making
About this event
In October, during Canadian Library Month, we celebrate the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives. Join the team at Library and Archives Canada for an introductory workshop in the art of bookbinding, exploring how books are expertly preserved in our facilities. You’ll discover what commonplace books are and find inspiration in this centuries-old art form while creating your own notebook.
Note that participants will handle sharp and pointy tools during the workshop.
Admission
Free admission; registration is required.
The workshop will be held in English and French at the times indicated below. Bilingual staff will be on site to assist you. Spaces are limited, so register now!
If registration is full, you may still come in person to 625 du Carrefour Boulevard in Gatineau on the evening of the workshop. Spots may become available at the last minute due to cancellations.
What is the Art from the Archives series?
Designed to spark your creativity, this series invites you to explore the lesser-known artworks from the collections preserved at LAC. Each workshop begins with a brief presentation of selected artworks and archives, followed by a creative activity led by a local artist. All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary!

About the artist
Robin Mullins is an analyst on the Interpretation Team at Library and Archives Canada. Robin is an experienced researcher and historian who has facilitated workshops in Carleton University's Book Arts Lab.
Parking
Parking spaces are available in front of 625 Boulevard du Carrefour in Gatineau. Several Société de transport de l’Outaouais bus routes serve nearby stops.
